Larry Davis at Shawangunk Prison in Upstate New York

Many more people in our community should be aware of the late Larry Davis who was a true freedom fighter albeit a reluctant one...Larry used to sell drugs to the Black community in New York City for the NYPD!!! Yes that's right he was selling drugs for some of the police officers in the New York Police Department in the early to mid 1980s...However, he had a change of heart...Instead of the crooked cops letting him walk away from it all Superfly style, he had to basically fight for his life and shoot it out O.K. Corral style....Police sent a hit squad to his apartment where they engaged Larry Davis in a gun fight...He injured several cops and was able to escape with his life and was on the run for 17 days...Eventually the truth came out about the NYPD drug ring...
Ironically Larry Davis beat the case involving his shootout with the cops only to receive a life sentence for "his alleged part" in the murder of a Bronx, NY drug dealer...Late last month, Feb. 20, 2008, (Black History Month) he was stabbed numerous times in prison..."The investigation" into his murder is underway...Many people felt that the powers that be decided to snuff him out because of what he was going to tell the B.E.T. Network the producers of the Black true crime series, American Gangster...That type of exposure could bring back tension and a dark past that the NYPD has been trying to forget & rehabilitate for years now...
However with the shooting of Amadou Diallo and recently Sean Bell, the NYPD proves that old habits die hard...
It is unfortunate that many of us do not know this story...The mainstream media as usual basically let this story fly under the radar, but thank the heavens for alternative media!!!

This all crap, we all know Larry davis wasn't good to society as far as the NYPD (we don't have facts that they were dealing w/ larry). What Larry should have been doing is going to school and be a positive brother to society. Stop blaming it on the white man/society/ gov't officials, that's old now. sheesh..
Yes, well blaming it on the white man may be old news now, but it wasn't back when he was going through it. I say those cops way back when was trying to get him so he could not talk about their dirtiness. Bastards! His life was just as important as any of theirs were. I feel so bad for what happened to him in prison. Rest In Peace.
